Helpful tips and tricks.

Mulching
Most gardens use mulch for keeping weeds under control and water conservation. Depending on the type of mulch you use, it can also regulate the temperature of the soil and add vital nutrients.
Types of mulches
Organic materials, lawn clippings, weeds, discarded plants and cut branches.
Inorganic materials, pebbles, stones, gravel.

Propagation
A passion for "freebie" plants has meant that during the winter "cut back" time, we take as many cuttings as possible, pinch off the side shoots and the results are very rewarding.

Cuttings from most plants found in the Mediterranean climate do well in the open. You need a place that is protected, has maximum light but not direct sunlight and is free draining. Incorporate sand ( not from the beach ) and a mild, slow release fertilizer, when you cut sections or pull off sideshoots they need to be 10cm long with a heel. When you put it into the soil there should be a bud above and below ground level. Space them well, letting air circulate. Covering pots with plastic bags keeps in humidity, but allow in fresh air with weekly visits. Most importantly keep soil moist !!!!
